Brazil is engaged in training health professionals from Ghana, in the treatment of sickle-cell anaemia, a disease caused by genetic mutation with high incidence on the African continent, in Saudi Arabia and in India.
These are the concrete results of a partnership between the Ministry of Health’s National Blood and Blood Products Coordination, the Federal University of Minas Gerais Diagnosis Support Actions and Research Centre, the Hemominas Foundation and the Ministry of External Relations’ Brazilian Cooperation Agency. The agreement resulted in the project entitled “support for the Structuring of the National Systems of Integral Health care for People with Sickle-Cell Anaemia in Ghana” The Brazilian Government’s aim is to provide support for the creation of a reference centre to combat this problem in Ghana, which will also serve as a training centre for other countries in the region.
During his visit to Brazil, on the occasion of the 5th Brazilian symposium on Sickle-cell Anaemia in October 2009, Doctor Kwaku-Ohene Frempong, president of the Sickle-Cell Foundation of Ghana, one of the world’s biggest authorities on sickle-cell anaemia, praised Brazilian treatment of the diseases: “In a nutshell, it’s excellent. It is a truly community-based effort, developed directly with the community. The system of taking sick people directly to hospital is very important. The best thing is that people who are ill at home don’t need to worry about the cost of treatment and are able to receive the medical attention they need” , he stated, adding that: “We hope to be able to do this in Ghana one day”

A Embaixada do Brasil informa aos brasileiros que, como resultado da II Conferência Brasileiros no Mundo, foi institucionalizado o Conselho de Representantes de Brasileiros no Exterior (CRBE), para assessorar o Ministério das Relações Exteriores em assuntos de interesse das comunidades brasileiras no exterior. O Regimento Interno do CRBE foi elaborado conforme prevsito no Decreto 7.214, de 15/06/2010. Nesse sentido, serão eleitos 4 titulares e 4 suplentes por região, a saber, quatro para a África, Ásia, Oriente Médio e Oceania, quatro para a Europa, quatro para a América do Norte e Caribe e quatro para as Américas do Sul e Central.
Estão abertas as inscrições, no período de 6 a 12 de outubro corrente, para candidaturas de cidadãos brasileiros para referido Conselho. A votação ocorrerá primordialmente por meio eletrônico, tomando em conta o disposto no paragafo 3 do Decreto de 7.214. As eleições deverão ocorrer entre a segunda metade de outubro e o início de novembro, a depender de disponibilidde técnica. Será divulgado em breve o cronograma eleitoral detalhado dos procedimentos de inscrição e votação. A fim de oficializar as respectivas candidaturas, pede-se acessar diretamente o Portal “Brasileiros no Mundo” www.brasileirosnomundo.mre.gov.br
